Which website style do users prefer?

Users reject simple sites

Recent usability research has recently found that clean and simple site design is not the most important factor to users.

Users pointed to:

  1. strong user focus
  2. good use of graphics
  3. detailed information

Further, more detailed analysis has found that a graphical style is more important for older users and females. Detailed information is more important to younger users.

Any new website design looking to benefit from these findings should increase the degree of user focus within a complex mix of alongside graphics and detailed content.

Crucially, any design should be tested on users or assessed by independent consultants to check that this is being achieved.
